Note di degustazione
Full bottle 1,323 g. Grapes from the entire region, harvested from different bush-vine vineyards that are over 50 years old in the southern area of Ponferrada, at different elevations and with different soil compositions. Mainly Mencía (90%) but it also contains varieties such as Palomino, Doña Blanca and Alicante Bouschet. Spontaneous fermentation with 30% whole clusters. Short post-fermentation maceration and ageing for 1 year in 50% wooden and 50% stainless-steel vats. Deep cherry red. An inviting stone-dust layer (mineral?) over the pretty and slightly stemmy, scented dark fruit. On the palate, extreme purity and a slight but satisfying austerity. Finely dry tannins and bags of freshness, almost chalky on the finish. (JH)

2021 was a cold year with snow, plenty of rain and some mildew pressure that delivered a slim 2021 En el Camino, a blend of Mencía and 10% other grapes (Palomino, Doña Blanca and Alicante Bouschet) from different vineyards mostly on clay and quartz soils. It fermented with 30% full clusters and indigenous yeasts and matured in a 50/50 combination of oak casks and stainless steel. It's very perfumed, expressive and open, elegant and balanced, fine-boned and seductive, very clean and defined. 30,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in October 2022.
