The 2021 Fixin Les Arvelets 1er Cru offers simple, slightly rustic brambly red fruit on the nose intermixed with damp loamy undergrowth scents. I appreciate the harmony here. The palate is medium-bodied with a lightly spiced entry. Dark red berry fruit (cranberry and raspberry) dovetails into a peppery, slightly viscous finish. Quite bold for the vintage and well crafted. It would not surprise me if this gives 15+ years' drinking pleasure. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Fixin Les Arvelets 1er Cru has a peppery bouquet in part thanks to the 20% whole bunches. Fine delineation, though this demands a bit of aeration to cohere. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine delineation quite poised and sorbet fresh with candied orange peel mixed with hints of pain d'épice on the finish. Lovely.
A highlight of the range this year (as is often the case) is the 2021 Fixin 1er Cru Les Arvelets, which includes the fruit sometimes vinified and bottled separately as Les Hervelets, an idiosyncrasy of the appellation system in Fixin. Wafting from the glass with scents of plums, rose petals, bergamot, peonies and sweet spices, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and satiny, with melting tannins and a sensual, seamless profile, concluding with a succulent, saline finish.
