Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2016-2022, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2016

(14% alcohol): Bright ruby-red. Very sexy aromas of currant, mocha, coffee, graphite, dried flowers and herbs are complex and expressive. Wonderfully silky and sweet, with dark raspberry, mocha and espresso flavors nicely framed by harmonious acidity. Very intense and densely packed for this bottling: an outstanding vintage for Viader. Finishes very long, with smooth tannins and terrific lift. Offers a rare combination of sweetness, refined texture, concentration and length. And perfect right 2016.

Subtle and really rather beautiful. Rich start yet dry and rewarding on the finish. I’d love to see this next to a classed growth. Really very smart wine. Probably pretty GV next to a Bordeaux classed growth. Long. (JR)

(a 69/31 blend of cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc) Good full ruby-red. Highly complex nose offers currant, plum, blueberry, bitter chocolate and herbs. Suave, silky and downright creamy in the mouth, with lovely breadth and palate coverage. Fresh but harmonious acidity gives this a rather sophisticated texture. In comparison to the easier, fruit-forward 2004, this one is more characterized by its bite and structure.

Good full ruby. Explosive aromas of boysenberry, blackberry, violet, bitter chocolate and sweet oak, with a hint of cigar tobacco. Ripe, dense and full but not particularly sweet; in fact, this is muscular and gripping for this label. Quite closed today, with the dark fruit flavors currently dominated by oak, bitter chocolate and brown spices. Distinctly tannic on the back. Shows less of the typical elegance of this bottling than the '04, but this has real oomph.
