The 2006 Raymond-Lafon has an uncomplicated bouquet with candlewax, touches of sea spray and light tertiary notes. It doesn't quite gel as well as other vintages from this era. The palate is slightly better, with commendable depth and well-judged acidity. It unfurls with marmalade, peach skin and a touch of pear, though it needs a bit more precision and complexity on the finish. Perfect to drink now—I cannot see this improving in the bottle.

Tasted at the Sauternes 2006 ten-year on horizontal in Bordeaux. The 2006 Raymond Lafon felt rather reduced on the nose, quite resinous in style and lacking a sense of joie de vivre. The palate is better with honeyed, lightly spiced fruit merging with apricot jam and quince towards the finish, which just needs to show more tension and precision. Not bad, but I have encountered better vintages from this estate in recent years. Tasted April 2016.
Second bottle was definitely richer with real nerve and tingle and exciting depths. Luscious and almost unspittable. Lovely unctuous stuff with real nerve. (JR)
