We visited the winery last month and met winemaker of 30 plus years, Aldo Vacca. As an infinitely modest man, we were surprised by his bold statement that this was the finest vintage he has experienced not only in his career, but since even the incredible 1971 vintage. The phrase "vintage of the century" was uttered. Of course he did so in typically humble fashion, taking no credit himself but attributing the success entirely to the vintage and his growers. Tasting the 2016 it is certainly not hard to imagine that this must be true. It is sensational. Aldo described the vintage as having given rise to "slow, easy ripening fruit, resulting in fine tannins and a very delicate Burgundian style wine". For Walter Speller, the 2016 vintage will be a game changer for Barbaresco. It has produced wines with a "transparency that gives a clear indication of what Barbaresco is stylistically about and one that can no longer be ignored". A firm favourite already amongst many wine lovers, Produttori is absolutely unbeatable for producing the highest quality wines consistently year in and year out, yet remaining astoundingly good value.
