Disgorged in April 2014, Cédric Bouchard's NV Blanc de Noirs Les Ursules (2010) is showing brilliantly, soaring from the glass with scents of mandarin, pear, smoke and clear honey. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and layered, with chewy extract and considerable concentration, its vinous profile and evident maturity of fruit tempered, as ever, by lively acids that lend the wine unerring precision, even when it's served at room temperature. Bouchard owns a 0.97-hectare parcel in the north-facing lieu-dit of Les Ursules, and it was this site in the 2000 vintage that he launched his then-fledgling label.

100% Pinot Noir from 2007. Cédric Bouchard’s own estate, Les Ursules is single grape variety, single vineyard, single vintage. 28 months on lees, no dosage. 3,600 bottles produced. Distinctive and piercing nose, with notes of orange peel. Clementine and cream on the palate, with lots of spice and crackling red fruit. I’m told that his wines benefit from decanting. (TC)
Intense, dramatic nose. Tight bead and really very caressing and soft. Tiny, tiny fizz. Great balance. (JR)
