FINE+RARE, Oct 2022
The vines used for Paul Pernot’s Bourgogne Chardonnay were planted in 1975. Now almost 50 years old, this old-vine plot borders Puligny-Montrachet, producing a Bourgogne Blanc of exceptional richness. Sadly – thanks to frost and wet, cool conditions – in 2021 there is 40% less of this cuvée than normal. Those cool conditions however have brought taut and vibrant acidity. The wine is bright and fresh with a classical, restrained nose of subtle citrus, sea spray and flinty minerality, with a touch of buttery richness and juicy white-fleshed nectarines. The palate combines a round viscosity with a line of taut salinity, with a long pithy finish.
