The initially timid 2010 Barbaresco Manzola opens very slowly to impart a steady succession of dried rose petals, cassis, cranberry, cola, balsam herb and a touch of sweet almond paste. The wine is elegant and subdued with great emphasis on silkiness and length, especially where the mouthfeel is concerned. It should flesh out with more time in the bottle. Drink: 2015-2025. Energetic, brilliant and beautifully delineated, the 2010 Barbaresco Manzola impresses for its tension and drive. The aromas and flavors are decidedly high-toned in a Barbaresco built on pure minerality. At the same time, the 2010 has a level of depth and mid-palate richness that balances some of the slightly angular contours that are present, none of which are alarming, as the 2010 was bottled just two weeks before this tasting.
