This is aging nicely with racy strawberries, black earth and plums to the nose. Medium-bodied and bright on the palate with fine tannins and a lengthy finish. Very elegant, nuanced. Resolved but still youthful. Drink now.

(aged in new French oak barrels for 18 months) Deep, saturated red. Mineral-accented aromas of red berry preserves, incense, spicecake and candied flowers show impressive energy and delineation. Sweet, seamless and pliant in the mouth, offering concentrated raspberry, boysenberry and lavender pastille flavors that deepen steadily with air. Rich but energetic as well, with velvety tannins framing an extremely long finish that leaves behind exotic spice and vanilla notes.

The 2011 Reserva 60 is made from Amaren's best grapes, from Tempranillo vines more than 60 years old. It fermented in French oak vats and matured in new French and American oak barrels for 22 months, including malolactic. It's very oaky, with sweet spices, vanilla and cinnamon, toasted bread and roasted coffee aromas, balsamic and ripe. The palate reveals plenty of tannin and oak-related flavors. This exceeds my oak threshold. For fans of oaky wines. 25,000 bottles produced.
