Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2021-2031, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2018

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Miljenko's Selection is just as compelling as it was from barrel. Sweet tobacco, mint, crushed flowers and blood orange are some of the nuances that add complexity to this very pretty, restrained Cabernet Sauvignon from Grgich Hills. Today, the Miljenko's Selection is a bit more hushed than it was last year. Even so, this gracious, mid-weight Cabernet has a lot to offer. Next to the more powerful Old Vine Cabernet, the Miljenko's shows a bit more brightness and energy.

Blended of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep garnet-black color and nose of black and red berries, earth and herbs with savory hints. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm, chewy and lively.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Miljenko's Selection is super-impressive. Dense, powerful and explosive, the 2016 is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine. Sweet tobacco, crushed flowers, licorice and cedar run though a core of dense, dark fruit in this superb, hugely promising Cabernet Sauvignon from Grgich Hills.

Moving to the reds, notes of black cherries, leafy herbs, currants, and spice-box all emerge from the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Vine, which is all from Yountville and will see 17 months in French oak before being moved to larger oak casks prior to bottling. Medium to full-bodied, firm, focused, and tight, with a classic, old-school style, it has enough tannin to warrant short-term cellaring.
