Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2022-2030, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2017

(this was the first 2014 bottled, in December of 2015, and the highest in pH): Moderately saturated medium red. Reticent aromas of black cherry, spicecake and earth; one can smell the higher pH. Sweet and pliant for young Clos Vougeot, showing more savory soil tones than primary fruit. Not at all a hard style but nonetheless conveys an impression of solidity that compensates for its lower acidity. Finishes with building tannins. Already displays a lot of personality as well as the slightly animal character that many of Alan Meunier's wines show in their early years in bottle.

Bright red-ruby. Superripe, high-toned black raspberry dominates the nose; I find this a touch porty. Fat, creamy and sweet, with expressive black fruit and chocolate flavors accented by a strong licorice note; still, I wanted a bit more mid-palate intensity and definition. Tannins turn a bit dry on the back. The yield of 41 hectoliters per hectare was high for this parcel, which was picked with 13. 1% natural alcohol and will be bottled at 13. 2%. I find this a bit tiring for grand cru. Not a good showing today.
