Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2019-2041, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2015

The 2001 Barolo Rocche dei Brovia is a drop-dead gorgeous beauty. Nothing in particular stands out, just the wine's extraordinary balance. Dark, sumptuous and utterly striking, the 2001 is deep, fresh and vibrant. The 2001 impresses for its mid-palate depth, pliancy and purity. Still an infant, the 2001 needs to be cellared for at least a few years. What a gorgeous wine this is.

The 2001 Barolo Rocche is dazzling. Sweet red cherries, flowers and tobacco are some of the many notes that emerge over time. The balance of fruit and structure is compelling. Silky, finessed tannins that are the hallmark of Rocche frame the long finish. The 2001 has developed beautifully over the last decade. Its future appears to be every bit as stellar.

Anticipated maturity: 2012-2026. Brovia’s 2001 Baroli are stunning. Such beauty. Such grace. It’s all there in these splendid, handcrafted wines. Vinification and aging are very much done along traditional lines, although Brovia prefers French rather than Slovenian oak for their casks. Readers who own these wines are going to be very, very happy. Importer: Rosenthal Wine Merchants, Pine Plains, NY; tel. (800) 910-1990

The 2001 Barolo Rocche is the most accessible of the single-vineyard Barolos I tasted. A dark translucent ruby, it offers a gorgeous, perfumed nose of roses, sweet fruit and minerals, along with bright red cherry fruit on a classic, mid-weight frame with great length and fine, elegant tannins. A beautiful wine that captures the essence of this terroir, Brovia's Rocche will benefit from a few years of bottle age and should last until age 20.
