This has aged beautifully, with aromas of cedar, dust and pepper. The palate is luscious yet dry, velvety and enveloping, round but with an angular edge. The tannins are resolved, and the wine shows richness combined with precision. It’s remarkably youthful for its age. Drink or hold.

This wine will be released next year, recorked and relabelled as part of their first Private Cellars collection. Mid garnet with bricky rim. Marked aroma of lavender and dried flowers. Really floral in a wildflower way, scented not perfumed. More minty as it opens. Red-fruited and a touch minty on the palate, too – seems to show the house's more delicate style more obviously than the 2003 does. Refined, silky and remarkably pretty for a port. Tannins are dry in texture and extremely elegant. (JH)
Mid brick. Some brawn and stony mineral notes, over dried figs and woody, earthy tones. Medium depth of black fruit and spice, but with quite firm, pinching tannins. Not bad, but not the most successful Warre's, for me. (TJ)
Bright crimson. Mild and malty on the nose. Veil of brightness, with some vegy, leathery tannins still in evidence. Peppery end. Definitely Dow is fruitier. Quite volatile. (JR)
