Note di degustazione
The 2018 The Classic wafts up with a mentholated freshness, as rosy florals and baking spice give way to tart black cherry and a dusting of cocoa. This is silky, almost creamy in feel, contrasted by mineral-tinged dark red fruits and spice. It tapers off peppery and fresh, leaving hints of graphite and sage to linger on and on. The 2018 impresses with the energy of the vintage coupled with a core of pure fruit. The Classic is a bled of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 14% Petit Verdot and 8% Merlot.

A blend of 64%Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 14% Petit Verdot and 8% Merlot, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon The Classic spills out of the glass with intoxicating aromas of blackberry compote, spiced cherries, black raspberry essence and tones of worn leather and brown baking spices. Medium to full-bodied and with 13.9% alcohol, the wine displays impeccable balance and a delightfully layered palate with a juicy and dusty core that gives way to succulent acidity and fine-grained tannins. The wine concludes with a long-lingering and evolving finish that offers persistent flavors of sweet tobacco and blackberry essence. The wine rested for in 50% new Taransaud barrels for just under two years. Only 6,400 bottles were filled.
The 2018 The Classic is a rock star of a wine. Based on 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and the rest Merlot, it’s medium to full-bodied and nicely concentrated, with a great mid-palate as well as silky tannins. Showing classic Cabernet notes of darker currants, leafy herbs, tobacco, cedar, and iron, it’s going to cruise for two decades in cold cellars. While this comes from the Rocks region of the Walla Walla Valley, it’s not too overtly funky or wild, and I love its purity.
