Morlet's 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Mon Chevalier is 92% Cabernet Sauvignon (about two-thirds Clone 4 and one-third Clone 337), plus 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% each Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot. As you might expect from someone who made the wines at Peter Michael, Morlet knows something about dealing with Knights Valley fruit, and this bottling, from an estate vineyard, is always solid. The nose hints at tobacco, then moves on to offer up notes of ripe cherries and cassis. In the mouth, it's medium to full-bodied, open-knit and rather roughly textured, lacking a bit of refinement in its youth, but it delivers ample fruit and concentration and a long, intense finish.

Moving to the flagship releases, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Mon Chevalier isn't up with the best vintages, but it's clearly an outstanding wine. Deep purple-hued, with mineral-laced notes of black fruits, gravelly earth, tobacco, and dark chocolate, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, firm tannins, and a good finish. It seems free from smoke and possibly has some upside with short-term cellaring.
The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Mon Chevalier is an attractive, relatively soft wine. Espresso, licorice, dried flowers, incense, grilled herbs and rose petal are nicely layered in the glass. This is a very pretty wine, but one that is perhaps lacking a bit in the mid-palate.
