Note di degustazione
Pale greenish straw. Very classic tightly-furled notes on the nose. Wonderful freshness and vigour and delicacy – what verve! Flowers and super cleanliness. Just titillates the palate with its hints of delights to come – whisks over it with a feather duster. For the moment the acidity makes more of an impression than what is obviously an amazing richness of fruit. Great stuff! To be left alone for many a year. What a shame we don’t have more examples from the Mosel in this tasting... (JR)

The 2005 Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Beerenauslese smells of honey-drenched grilled nectarine wreathed with flowers and sweet herbal essences. It displays the most remarkably custard-like combination of creaminess and almost chewable extract that I have ever experienced in a young Mosel. Like others of the best Fritz Haag 2005s, this Riesling manages to incorporate fresh, juicy nectarine, peach, lime, and grapefruit into its many layers of fruit concentrate, so that for all of its thickness and botrytised super-ripeness it remains invigorating and lip-smackingly refreshing. It also manages – again in the manner of the best 2005s – to preserve a sense of delicacy, for all of its ennobled richness and viscosity. Diverse flowers and herbs, nut paste, malt, honey, and salt all add further complexity to the layers of fruit so impressively on display here, leading to a finish of extraordinary length, refinement, and persistence. Also recommended: 2005 Riesling ($20.00; 86). Importer: Rudi Wiest, Cellars International, Carlsbad, CA; tel. 800-596-9463
Very pale – amazingly light and delicate. Pale honey flavours. Minerally but extremely, almost inexpressively, young. (JR)
