The darkest color to this point among these 2015s: bright medium red. Alluring, vibrant perfume of raspberry, dark cherry and rose petal. Sappy and extract-rich, with its deep, slightly medicinal flavors of blueberry, dark raspberry and tart red cherry enlivened by elements of saline minerality and crushed rock. This very concentrated but youthfully backward wine finishes with outstanding length; compared to the Clos Saint-Denis, it's a bit less refined but more powerful This may age longer owing to the richness of its tannins but it's also quite showy today.

Cask sample. Mid crimson. More fragrant initially than the Clos St-Denis, more red fruited. Truly inviting and pretty in aroma. Deep and rich on the palate. Great fruit and beautifully modulated structure. (JH)

Healthy bright red. Darker on the nose than the Clos Saint-Denis, even a bit brooding, but still with superb lift to the aromas of black cherry, licorice, clove, rose petal and black pepper. Then very backward in the mouth, but already displays superb cut to the intense raspberry and pepper flavors. The wine's firm tannic spine will require serious patience. Stehly uses a different mix of barrels to accentuate the differences between this wine and his Clos Saint-Denis: the Clos de la Roche is aged entirely in Cadus barrels with three origins of wood, while Stehly uses barrels from Cadus, Berthomieux and Val de Loire for the Clos Saint-Denis.
