Boillot’s Corton is a highlight of the range at this classy address. It’s a wine of incredible intensity, power and length. It’s tightly coiled now – with layers of lemon and lime ready to burst with time in bottle. Acidity drives through the palate, complemented by a wave of chalky minerality that washes over the fruit, utterly mouth-watering and moreish. Stunning.

Mid yellow. Some oak, a little bit of fruit weight, fruit salad style but here there are the proper Corton-Charlemagne stones beneath. There is some tension at the back of the palate which augurs quite well. This wine is growing in the glass. Blanched almonds.

The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has an attractive bouquet with melted candle wax, yellow plum and lanolin aromas. I appreciate the typicité in this Corton Charlemagne, and it is well-defined. It's one of the most intellectual aromatics that you have to sit and ponder. The palate is taut and fresh. There's a clever reduction at play here, tensile with a judicious pinch of ginger. This feels animated and supremely well-focused on the finish. Overall, the 2020 is an accomplished and satisfying Corton-Charlemagne. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
