Note di degustazione
Boillot doesn’t own vines in Corton-Charlemagne but harvests and presses the fruit for this wine himself. Unfortunately, there is significantly less of this wine than normal, with yields around a third down due to frost. Smoky and flinty notes sit alongside stone-fruit aromatics on the nose, but it’s the palate that is striking here. This is so full of energy; electric acidity coiled around a core that vibrates with its intensity. With air the nose reveals layers of honeysuckle, acacia and subtle spice, while the palate drives onto a long, mineral and zesty finish. Powerful and tight now, this will need time but promises great things.

Top value - Like the Montrachet, the nose is cool, elegant a pure with its blend of Granny Smith apple, mineral reduction and citrus confit. Somewhat surprisingly, there is a bit more volume to the impressively powerful big-bodied flavors that also display huge length on the almost painfully intense finale that is borderline tannic. This is superb but it's also a wine to buy and forget in the back of a cool cellar for a minimum of 7 to 8 years. A stunner. Drink 2035+
A paler colour, also beautifully done, with little stones infusing the bouquet. “This is far from being ridiculous” suggests Henri. A wonderful thread. The oak is a touch more marked, an iron backbone yet with some delicacy to the fruit, fresh apple, a little citrus, some pear as well, and all a harmonious whole. Really well done.
The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is fabulous. Bright and effusive, with terrific depth, the 2023 captures all the energy that is typical of the best Charlemagnes. Crushed rocks, mint, sage, chamomile, dried flowers and tangerine oil race across the palate. The Charlemagne is often one of the best wines here, as it is again in 2023. It’s certainly a highlight.
