Red and dark berry preserve aromas are complemented by notes of rooty sassafras, vanilla and smoky Indian spices. Sweet raspberry and boysenberry flavors stain the palate and pick up a spicy quality with air, along with a note of candied rose. In a weighty style but not lacking for energy or freshness, with strong finishing thrust and a persistent note of candied flowers. (JR)

The 2006 Pinot Noir Southing exhibits an evolved medium ruby color as well as a big, spicy, earthy nose displaying hints of roasted herbs, sweet cherries, and red currants. The complex aromatics are followed by a medium-bodied wine with complex flavors, melted tannins, and plenty of red fruit as well as tart cherries. Deeply concentrated black raspberry and cherry flavors are energized by tangy minerals and pick up rooty licorice and sassafras with air.
