Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2018-2026, Jancis Robinson MW, Aug 2022

Full bottle just 1,235 g. I have to thank Sybille Kuntz, who always encloses a more mature bottle when she sends me her latest vintage to taste. Quite a mature nose, but then this is seven years old. Attractive combination of rich evolution on the nose with a suggestion of faded flower petals and lime marmalade with a strong squeeze of lemon on the palate. Very refreshing and pure pleasure. (JR)

Full bottle 1,320 g.  Certified organic in 2003. Less of the TDN character than on the Kabinett trocken 2015 but it is there. Peachy, lime and a mineral spice note. Deep, sour-citrus intensity. Richness of fruit and, I suspect, more than 4 g/l residual sugar, given this mouth-filling presence and length. Pure Riesling backbone. (JH)

Demeter certified. This is from the Niederberg-Helden vineyard in Lieser and has, to my shame, been badly stored for several years in too hot a place. Deep greenish gold. Perhaps a little more evolved than one might expect but it's still absolutely delicious! Pungent, smoky Riesling with notes of ginger and just off dry. This should be great with the jamon iberico I'm planning for my lunch. Quite enough citrus acidity and balanced, even if not from a vintage conventionally regarded as stellar. No harm has come to this, thank goodness. Impressive persistence. (JR)

RS 9 g/l, TA 7.6 g/l, 100º Oechsle. From golden, non-botrytised grapes grown on ungrafted vines up to 100 years old on the steep, up to 70%, slopes of the Niederberg-Helden. Ripe aromas of passion fruit and Cape gooseberries. Very finely chiselled. Still youthful with a lightly chalky finish. Super-clean. (JR)
