Dark smudgy garnet. Ripe and dark with plenty of fruit as well as very dark chocolate. I like the darkness and the dark-chocolate effect but there's some sweetness that sticks out. Chewy but there's a bit of a hole in the middle. The dark and spicy fruit is good. Velvet now but still firm. (JH)

The 2014 Legacy Syrah comes from Omahu Gravels and Twyford Gravels and is matured for 18 months, 38% in new oak. It has an attractive bouquet of black cherries, iodine, sage and oregano, nicely defined if missing some floral scents. The medium-bodied palate is elegant and refined, offering light red cherry and cranberry fruit and just a touch of white pepper lingering on the aftertaste. Very fine.
Scents of earth, plum and black cherry mark the nose of the 2014 Legacy Syrah. Vanilla and baking spices show up more on the palate, along with a hint of black pepper. This medium to full-bodied Syrah boasts a ripe, creamy texture on the mid-palate, then turns tart on the finish. Note that this wine is labeled El Legado in the United States.
67% Omahu Gravels, 33% Twyford Gravels. Hand plunged in open fermenters. Fermented at 30–34 ºC, 32 days on skins, 18 months in French oak (38% new). TA 6.88 g/l, pH 3.53. Inky purple-crimson with deep purple rim. Dark-fruited and spicy with a rocky/mineral note to complement the sweet spice of the oak. Rich, chewy but rounded tannins, bone dry and peppery with red and black fruit and plenty of freshness on the palate. Even the texture seems a little spicy. Generous, not overly sweet or alcoholic, well balanced and long. (JH)
