Started doing tressage (weaving the shoots into the canopy rather than hedging) in this vintage and seeing the benefits already in smaller berries and greater concentration. Cask sample. Intense aroma of spicy/toasty oak, but the oak is well judged to let the fruit enjoy the limelight. Pure, concentrated, long and mouth-watering. (JH)

There are seven barrels of the 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Grandes Ruchottes made from vines that are now farmed without cutting the vines' apical shoot. Wafting from the glass with notes of pear, clear honey, white flowers, iodine and hazelnuts, it's full-bodied, layered and tensile, with a deep core of fruit, racy acids and a long, chalky finish. It's a testament to how the young Adrien Pillot is taking this domaine to new qualitative heights.
