Da bere 0-0, David Schildknecht, Vinous

Josef Spreitzer harvested a now legendary 1920 TBA of record-setting 303 degrees Oechsle from the then Bremerberg-Eiserberg. His grandsons decided to honor the record once set in this particular parcel on the label of today's wines. There is a slatey stony element in the soil here that clearly informs the wine, providing a sounding board for the abundant fruit as well as greater complexity. The nose here is floral and musky, like some exotic orchid. It comes on the palate fat, round, full of fructose, pure and polished, although not without some superficial excess of sweetness. But there is also more spice and nuance here than with the other Spreitzer 2000s. The sweetness, but also the florality, the sappy, pearsy fruit, the brown spices, nut oils, and a hint of stone persist impressively. Potential 2 stars.
