The most powerful wine in the cellar is the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes, a rich, muscular cuvée that offers up notes of plums, cherries, orange rind, spices and burning embers. Full-bodied, ample and muscular, it's deep and layered, with plenty of ripe, fleshy fruit cloaking its broad chassis of tannin.

Cask sample. Low-key nose suggests something worth digging out. Very sweet and fresh on the palate. Pacy stuff and a fine premier cru Volnay. A cool customer. (JR)
The 2019 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru has a fruit-driven bouquet with ample redcurrant and raspberry aromas, touches of limestone and flint percolating through with time. Very classy aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite lithe and sensual, just a hint of bitter cherry towards the finish. Very elegant, perhaps the most elegant of Glantenay’s crus this vintage, it may also be more approachable than the Les Rugiens or Caillerets.
