Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2018-2032, Neal Martin, May 2019

The 2002 Corton Clos Rognet Grand Cru is seriously impressive on the nose: a mélange of red and black fruit, tobacco, undergrowth, Provençal herbs that lend an almost garrigues-like element. The bouquet is just intoxicating. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. This is smooth in texture, almost candied in quality with blood orange and hints of espresso infusing the red fruit, leading to a soft and rounded finish. This is drinking perfectly now but it ought to easily give another decade’s worth of pleasure. (One bottle was corked but this note comes from a second bottle.) Tasted at Sarah Marsh MW’s 2002 Red Burgundy tasting.

Mid crimson. The nose doesn’t seem 100% clean. Sweet start with the tannins almost imperceptible until they really clench the palate on the finish. But it's still a bit jagged. Far from a charmer. But it has ripe fruit and good raw ingredients – but is still a bit raw even now. Very drying finish. (JR)

Like many '02s at this stage, the nose has closed up tight and only aggressive swirling coaxes the gorgeous red, black and blue fruit aromas nuanced with hints of violets, underbrush, game and a pretty touch of minerality out of their shell. The equally, and impressively complex, delicious, intense, detailed and classy flavors are remarkably refined for a young Corton yet this is an entirely serious wine of exceptional length and perfect balance. A stunner of a wine that is still extremely young, in fact it's downright backward and as such, a Corton that will age for years

Bright, deep ruby-red. Sexy aromas of roasted black raspberry and menthol. Big, rich and superripe, with an almost roasted character. But despite the wine's sucrosite, sound balancing acidity keeps it from cloying. Finishes with big, broad tannins and an edge of youthful acidity.
