(this fruit was picked on September 3): Healthy dark red with ruby highlights. Very ripe, slightly liqueur-like aromas of kirsch, blackberry, licorice and minerals. Wonderfully fine-grained and suave, with almost shocking acidity giving penetration and lift to its highly concentrated flavors of black fruits, licorice and stony minerality. An intriguing salty element adds another dimension. Finishes with huge but fully buffered tongue-coating tannins and outstanding length. This youthfully tight wine has the scale and structure for a long life in bottle.

The 2015 Corton Clos Rognets Grand Cru has a tightly-wound bouquet with a vein of grey slate permeating the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin in the mouth, quite grainy in texture with a strict, quite linear finish, hints of hoisin just lingering on the aftertaste. There is good energy here and it should gain more cohesion by the time of bottling, and may possess the longest aging potential.

(13.5% alcohol): Deep, bright ruby-red. Very subdued but pure scents of black cherry, spices and minerals. Plush and broad but vibrant and delineated too, offering an enticing combination of sweet black fruit, licorice and mineral flavors. Youthfully imploded and not yet showing the personality of the Perrières, yet there's already something seductive about this highly concentrated, extremely primary wine. I can see it enjoying a 25-year life in a cool cellar.

The 2015 Corton Clos Rognet Grand Cru has a slightly rustic bouquet, quite ferrous in style, with touches of red berry fruit and Earl Grey emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with mainly red fruit, again, a little irony. Savoury notes and meat juices build towards the finish. This needs decanting for four or five hours to show its best.
