The 2021 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru has plenty of fruit on the nose with raspberry and blackcurrant scents, light sea spray and seaweed, fine delineation and focus. There is an atypical sheen of opulence. The palate is sorbet-fresh on the entry with very fine lacelike tannins and irresistible red fruit infused with blood orange and tangerine. This is nascent vitality and energy, though very persistent with a brightness that really comes through. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Though the 2021 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru is showing a bit of reduction on the nose, it is clear that this is packed with some very attractive red fruit and floral scents. The palate is quite structured with good density, a solid RSV with a bold, saline finish. It needs a little more flesh to develop but that will be there once in bottle and given sufficient bottle age. Patience required.
The 2021 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru is a real success, soaring from the glass with aromas of raspberries, peonies, exotic spices, loamy soil, orange zest and vine smoke. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a satiny attack and a seamless, sensual mid-palate, it concludes with a long, perfumed finish.
