Punteggio 84/100 · Da bere 2014-2020, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Nov 2014

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2011 from Bouchard Père & Fils has quite an austere bouquet that is missing some fruit concentration, some pyrazine and reductive notes developing in the glass. The palate is taut and grassy on the entry, again with some pyrazine notes coming through and rendering this a little facile and hard. This is disappointing in the context of both vineyard and other wines from this Burgundy stalwart.

Good bright, pale yellow. Racy, high-strung nose combines lime, powdered stone, iodine and lavender. Juicy and penetrating yet at the same time silky and thick, communicating outstanding tension to its steely mineral-driven flavors. Wonderfully dense yet light on its feet, this vibrant, gripping wine is a classic example of its vineyard. Very long and a bit youthfully sharp on the finish, in need of at least four or five years of cellaring.

12-14 months in barrel, up to 20% new. Attractive aroma of lemon and clementine, the fruit outshining the oak on the nose though the latter more in evidence on the palate. Elegant but without grand-cru concentration. (JH)

Good pale yellow. Pure, scented nose offers aromas of lime, pineapple, acacia flower and powdered stone. Sappy, spicy and dense with extract, boasting lovely definition and a pronounced mineral character. Finishes saline, savory and dry, with a tactile crushed stone quality. The percentage of new oak here will only be about 10% by the time of the bottling (it's aging mostly in one- and three-year-old barrels).
