Bright, deep red. Cool, discreet aromas of berries and minerals lifted by peppery, floral high notes. Boasts terrific inner-mouth energy to its dark berry, violet and pepper flavors, with a saline element adding another dimension; displays terrific inner-palate tension in the way of the best 2013s. Finishes firmly tannic, with terrific carry-through to the intense fruit and spice flavors.

(these vines date back to the 1910s, making them the estate's oldest along with their Romanée-Saint-Vivant): Bright, dark red. Deeper-pitched on the nose than the Beaumonts, showing earth and smoke nuances. Then round and saline in the mouth, with the strong soil character following through. If the Beamonts is about red fruits, this one is about black. Even though these two appellations touch, the Hudelot-Noëllat parcels are "at opposite altitudes," notes Charles van Canneyt. Finishes with building dusty tannins and excellent length. This will offer more early accessibility than the Beaumonts owing to its earthy depth and sheer volume but should age well.

The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Suchots, which comes from the domains century-old vines on more clayey soil than the Beaumonts, has a pixilated bouquet with vibrant red currant and cranberry scents, more floral than the aforementioned premier cru. The palate is medium-bodied with supple juicy tannins, a fine line of acidity and a tangy marmalade-tinged finish that coats the mouth in spicy red fruit. There is just lovely build to this Suchots that is streets ahead of the 2012.
