This ex- château bottle of 1979 Figeac was cropped at 50hl/ha, according to the Manoncourt family records. Now showing extensive bricking, it has a musky, leathery nose that has lost most of its vigor, while the palate is redeemed by a fine bead of acidity. Ferrous notes infuse the red fruit. Rather grainy in texture with a somewhat abrupt finish, this Figeac should be drunk sooner rather than later. Tasted at the château .

Tasted at the Château Figeac vertical at the property, this was the first time that I have tasted the 1979 Figeac, which was cropped at 50 hectoliters per hectare. It has a mature brick rim. The nose is fully mature with singed leather, dried orange peel and musky scents that are defined, but unlike the 1978, seem a little fatigued. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine thread of acidity, quite ferrous in the mouth with a grainy texture and missing some substance on the mid-palate. It tapers towards the finish that finishes short. It is not a terrible 1979 by any stretch of the imagination, though I would drink bottles of the 1979 sooner rather than later. Tasted June 2015.
Late vintage. Yield 50 hl / ha. One third each Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark ruby with transparent rim. Full soft and round. Definitely ready! Lush, velvety. Still that cool note. But not very concentrated. (JR)

Sitting on the border with Pomerol, Ch. Figeac is a distinguished Saint-Emilion estate that produces some of the region's most sought-after wines. As of 2022, it is officially classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé A, one of the appellation's top estates along with Ch. Pavie.
