Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2020-2033, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, May 2016

Michel's 2013 Hermitage is a classic representation of the vintage, and offers textbook minerality and scorched earth-like characteristics to go with beautiful cassis, black raspberry, black cherry and violet aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, vibrant, sappy and downright lively, it has bright acidity and fine, polished tannin. It needs 3-4 years of cellaring and will have two decades of overall longevity.

Inky ruby. Sexy, highly perfumed blackberry, cherry liqueur and boysenberry aromas are complemented by suggestions of licorice and candied violet, and a subtle olive nuance emerges with air. Shows excellent depth as well as energy on the palate, offering appealingly sweet cherry and dark berry preserve flavors and a suggestion of spicecake. Supple, emphatically floral and seamless in texture, closing with powerful thrust and smooth, harmonious tannins.

100% Syrah, Sérine (60 years old). Rouméas and Pierelles. Dark purplish crimson. Really exciting nose with so much depth. Meat and savour and spice underneath top notes of pepper and dried herbs. Great rigour and very fine tannin management. Lots of drive and energy. I should imagine this is more open than most 2013 Hermitages but it is also very ambitious. Glossy confidence here. (JR)
