There’s under 500 cases of the terrific 2006 Cornas Granit 60 Vieilles Vignes, which comes from the Patou, Mazards and Sauman parcels in the appellation. Aged 15 months in older barrels and tank, it offers perfumed notes of black and blue fruits, mint and incense, with good acidity and a layered, sexy, textured style on the palate that makes it a joy to drink. It’s another 2006 that blossoms with time in the glass and shines for its charm and pure drinkability.

Inky ruby. Deep, youthfully brooding aromas of blackberry and blueberry confit, with licorice and cured meat notes adding complexity. Tough to read right now, showing slightly bitter dark fruit flavors and a solid, chewy texture. Gains sweetness on the finish but this clearly deserves patience.
Meat, spice and scorched black fruit on the nose. A sudden strong peppermill flavour on the palate, followed by black fruit and firm tannin. This one doesn't seem to have properly integrated yet, but will definitely live on for many years of bottle development. (RH)
Inky purple. Deep cassis and boysenberry scents, with bright baking spice and floral accents. Fresh dark berry flavors become deeper and sweeter with air, picking up velvety tannins and a subtle licorice quality. The long, juicy finish leaves sexy blueberry and candied licorice behind. This will be a pretty sexy example of Cornas.
