Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2025-2040, Jeb Dunnuck, May 2025

Leading off the reds from bottle, classic red and black fruits, spice, roasted herbs, and loamy earth all define the 2022 Côte Rôtie Ampodium. Medium-bodied, supple, and balanced, it has ripe tannins and will drink nicely for 10-15 years. It's a great intro cuvée for the estate and shows the sunny yet nicely structured style of the vintage. Drink 2025-2040. One of the reference points for Côte Rôtie, Domaine Rostaing is now firmly in the hands of Pierre Rostaing, who continues the legacy of his father René. Farming is sustainable, and winemaking remains traditional, with full destemming (there might be a stem or two in some of these) and élevage in a mix of larger older and new French oak, with the new wood kept to a minimum. The range includes the classic Côte Rôtie Ampodium, which blends multiple parcels, as well as single lieu-dit bottlings from La Landonne, Côte Blonde, Côte Brune, and Le Viallière. A Condrieu and a Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah (Les Lézardes) round out the lineup.

Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2027-2037, Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous, Nov 2024

The taut 2022 Côte-Rôtie Ampodium reveals black cherry, red plum, crushed violets and a touch of cedar on the nose. Medium-bodied with concentrated flavors, the 2022 concludes persistently with an elegant finish. More tannic than the 2023 tasted alongside, it will benefit from at least two more years in bottle.

Cask samples tasted at the domaine. Sample 1 : Blend of sites. Blood and graphite on the nose, gravel and spice as well. The palate has taut tannins, a richness and density as well as grip and firmness throughout. Savoury and dark and finishes rounder than it starts. Very primary and introverted, needs time. Sample 2 : Neve. Lovely blue fruit on the nose, juicy and has a liquorice note. The tannins are firm yet broad on the palate, still tight but has lovely fruit beneath. Rounded and with a graphite, earthy, bloody note lurking. Youthful. Sample 3 : Leyat. Meat and fig and graphite. Taut tannins and meaty, stony and with a gamey edge on the tightly coiled finish. (AC)
