Upper Douro. Lagares not used for their red table wines because it would be too extractive. All to tank for fermentation for a week, then maceration, then malo in barrel (25% new) helps reduce tannins; a total of 20 months' ageing. Field blend of around 20 different varieties, vines approx 90 years old at 400–450 m. Sappy, fresh nose. Racy and lively. More creamy texture like the white. Very fresh and lively. (JR)
