2015 Saarburger Rausch Spatlese 04 05

Scents and palate presence of honeydew and muskmelon, quince and mango make for a heady, luscious performance to which hints of basil and cress lend cooling and invigoratingly incisive counterpoint. A faint note of white raisin points toward desiccation and botrytis, although Hanno Zilliken noted that this wine resulted from a harvest of entire, largely healthy bunches. Alkaline, stony and saline notes add further complexity and mouthwatering appeal to a long finish that is at once soothing and stimulating. (DS)

This wine offers a superbly elegant and complex feel of citrusy fruits, a hint of coconut, minty herbs and slate on the nose. It proves medium-bodied on the palate, where zesty acidity provides the right counter-weight to delicately silky and ripe and creamy yellow fruits. A further kick of acidity comes through in the after-taste and livens up the whole experience. The presence and aromatic ripeness are that of a delicately clean and light Auslese. But the finesse and elegance are simply to die for as the wine lingers on long after having been tasted! It is still on the rich side at this stage but will prove a stunner at maturity.
