2020 Abelard

85% Grenache, 15% Syrah, from biodynamically farmed vineyards at 550–630 m above sea level. Bunches are destemmed; fermentation is in wooden vats before ageing in a mix of oak barriques and demi-muids for 18 months. 500 cases made. Cask sample. Lively with dark fruits, nutmeg and violet notes. Ripe and weighty, quite chewy and dense and powerful. Oak-led and rich, blueberry and strawberry fruits – needs time to come together. (AC)
