Full bottle just 1,193 g. Tasted in anticipation of the FT Weekend Festival German wine tasting in May 2025. Paler and greener than the late harvest Gurdau Czech 2021 Riesling I have just tasted. Very much more youthful, tighter and less fruity. A super-pure, feather-light Mosel Riesling, this is still tightly wound in its sulphite-protected cocoon. This is very promising but isn't there yet – whereas the more emphatic Czech Riesling is! (JR)

The 2021 Niederberg Helden Spätlese opens with a clear, intense, very elegant, savory and classic Spätlese nose, with blue slate splinters in its ripe but crisp and crunchy fruit. Lush and saline on the palate, this is a very elegant and balanced Spätlese with a coolish, crisp and mouthwatering finish. This is a picture-book Spätlese in the quaffable, savory rather than lush and sweet style. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022.
AP number 14 22. Lightly yeasty nose and chiselled, almost painful, fruit and acid in excellent harmony. Extremely appetising. Light as a feather. Pure Mosel! (JR)
