One of the finest botrytis, floral-honey and spice bouquets that I can remember! It’s not the substantial concentration that makes this wine, rather the staggering elegance and finesse. The intense but staggeringly fresh finish is off the scale! Drink or hold.

The 2019 Graacher Domprobst Riesling Beerenauslese opens with very clear and lemony botrytis and raisin aromas intertwined with fine slate aromas. Racy-piqaunt on the the first attack, this is a sweet but delicate and even filigreed BA with a frisky character. The finish is still sweet but very long and provided with piquancy and finesse. This should be a great BA in 10 or 20 years. 6.5% alcohol. Tasted from AP 16 20 in June 2020.
AP number 16 20. TA 10 g/l, RS 200 g/l. Low-key pure nose but then very rich, appley almost-syrup texture. There is – just – enough acidity but it doesn’t have quite the energy of some of the less-ripe wines at the moment – even if I'm sure it's a great triumph. (JR)
