Garnet. Slightly farmyardy on the nose (needs decanting) but also roses and earthy citrus spice. Incredibly layered and detailed as it slowly unwinds, trailing exotic spice and cherry skins and dark red fruit across the fruit. Orange peel. Long and so fine. Much of the earth here – it feels strangely rooted yet it soars. (TC)

Fragrant, opulent, pronounced. Impressive by way of sheer force, with excellent purity and ripeness too. Sure to convert any doubters! (RH)

18 months in barrique, 70% new oak. Pfarr means church, and the vineyard in the past belonged to the Catholic church. Showing a bit of development. Earthy spice on the nose, a daub of farmyard, then vibrant cherries and coriander seed. Beautifully sculpted fruit. Long, fine tannins, richness restrained by taut minerality. Ineffably long. It’s a wine that really blossoms in the glass – as the evening went on it seemed to become longer and deeper, more perfumed and graceful, yet with a thrilling spine of acidity and spice. (TC)

Intensely fragrant, sweet dark berries, a touch of truffle. This is vividly wrought, a symphony of fruit and supple silky tannins. Power with grace. Rich coffee bean, multi-layered minerality. (TC)
