his is Markus Molitor's very first wine from the prestigious grand cru in which he has leased 1,300 square meters since winter 2016. Like the three-starred Himmelreich Auslese trocken, the 2016 Riesling Bernkasteler Doctor Auslese *** (White Capsule) –Auction– opens with an excitingly deep, pure, flinty-mineral and refreshing nose with bright yet super ripe and concentrated Riesling aromas, oak leafs and crushed stones. This bouquet is excitingly pure and smoky on the deep, fine and concentrated lemon nose! Silky, highly finessed and tight on the perfectly balanced yet extremely mineral, fresh and complex palate, the 2016 is a full-bodied and rich yet fascinatingly droolworthy Doctor that combines its complexity and perfect ripeness with unreal finesse and a firm, persistent structure. How lush and rich, incredibly fine and salty this Doctor is! Provided with refreshing, finely grained minerals as well as dashes of lime juice and a tight, tensioned structure, this is likely the finest dry Riesling I've had in my life. Even from the entire glass you smell mirabelles and cold stones. The richness and concentration of this Doctor are carried away by its purity, mineral complexity and freshness. Tasted two times from the same bottle in March 2018. And yes, I left the bottle pretty much empty. That's not an all too bad sign, I'd say.".
