Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2025-2050, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, May 2018

The 2016 Riesling Brauneberger Mandelgraben Eiswein displays a clear citrus color and a bouquet with concentrated lemon zest and grapefruit as well as stony notes. Sweet, piquant and elegant on the palate, it is quite lush and clear but still closed for the moment, with orange flavors on the finish. This 6.5% alcohol Riesling has nice transparency and finesse and comes along as a pretty charming Eiswein with rather moderate sweetness. Tasted May 2018.

The 2016 Piesporter Falkenberg Riesling Eiswein (AP #7 17) shows brilliantly clear, bright and refined fruit with flinty aromas. Lush, piquant and enormously salty on the palate, this a highly elegant, precise and stimulating Eiswein with great finesse and persistency. Fabulous!

Representing the first press of Molitor’s sole 2016 Eiswein picking, this "one-star" bottling costs nearly twice as much as its star-free, second-press counterpart – and with good reason. In complete contrast with that immediate sibling, this leads with both candied and fresh evocations of pineapple, mandarin and grapefruit, and the viscous, glycerol-rich palate is correspondingly full of tangy, fresh juiciness even as its confectionary and confitured aspects are reinforced by an influx of quince jelly, white peach preserves and marzipan. A haunting garland of rowan and honeysuckle adds seductive inner-mouth allure. The lusciously lingering, uplifting finish is delightfully and invigoratingly tinged with cinnamon, citrus zest and candied ginger – not to mention incredibly, vibrantly persistent. Who could have imagined that Molitor’s wine of the vintage would in 2016 end up being an Eiswein? Examples of this genre being notoriously capricious and unpredictable, I prefer to offer a very conservative estimate of longevity even for one this sensationally energetic and impeccably balanced.
