Tasted from a mini sample bottle. 70% Grenache, 20% Carignan, 5% Grenache Gris, 5% Grenache Blanc. 950 bottles made. Silk and leather, wild plum, dried cherries. It’s got a lovely sweet-leather and souk-spice gentleness, and the tannins have developed the soft smudge and halo of sepia photographs. Transparent, cashmere. The cool breath of wild sage and tarragon whispering softly through the long, long limbs of the wine. This is a life pause in a glass. One sip of this wine and you'll want to turn off the lights, light a candle, find some silence, hold a stone, meditate. (TC)

90 year-old field blend from the Coume de Roy vineyard – 70% Grenache Noir, 20% Carignan dark and a little light, 5% Grenache Blanc, 5% Grenache Gris and 'the odd Muscat'. Fermented in upended demi-muids (500 litres). Aged for 14 months in a mixture of new and used demi-muids. Sealed with melted beeswax, we are told. Transparent crimson. The meaty side of Grenache makes its presence felt on the nose. Then on the palate the schist of Maury makes its presence felt with a grainy chewiness on the end – even though there is no mention of schist in the background notes. Not as rich as the 201, the last vintage I tasted, but that is probably no bad thing. Transparent and very much a twenty-first century wine. Long. Not ridiculously overpriced. (JR)
