Organic Syrah. Mid garnet. So different from the Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah just tasted and I'd have guessed it had some Grenache in the mix but apparently not. A slightly meaty quality that might be brett (which is why I have suggested such a short drinking window) but is light enough to add complexity rather than suggest a fault. Juicy and fresh even with the sweetness of fruit. Dry, moderate tannins bring it into balance. A serious Côtes du Rhône. (JH)

The Chaves have been growing grapes in the Northern Rhône since 1481. Jean-Louis Chave is the 16th generation to head up the family domaine, having taken over from his father in 1992.
