Intriguing aromas of nectarine, nut oil, lemon zest and oyster shell. The succulent peach pit flavor and textural richness are enlivened by a salty minerality that lingers tantalizingly on the finish. With its intensity and perfect clarity, this is without doubt one of finest dry Rieslings of the vintage in Germany. Given its proven track record, I expect it to mature extremely well.

RS 5.7 g/l. Firm and pungent nose. Vibrant with red pepper notes underneath. Gritty and with real grip. (JR)

The 2013 Westhofen Morstein Riesling trocken GG offers an even more subtle, refined and detailed bouquet than the Kirchspiel as it is a very delicate, rather filigreed and complex Riesling. Citrus flavors, powdered limestones and wet chalk along with floral aromas show up on the nose and lead to a very elegant, delicate palate of great purity and liveliness that finishes with lingering salinity. This medium to full-bodied, well balanced and complex wine is one of the stars of the vintage and should be cellared for 5 to 12 or more years.

I could wax lyrical about the nose, but would then have no superlatives left for the palate. A gentle honeycomb fragrance already indicates that the grapes must have been picked at optimum ripeness. In the mouth the Morstein releases a true firework of flavours, where just the fruit exhibits manifold dimensions from the juicy exotic to crunchy stone fruit, mouth-watering citrus to green and zesty peel notes. Add authentic acidity, profound salty minerality and a firm yet not overpowering body and all of a sudden 2013 almost looks like the vintage of the century. (MS)
