Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2010-2018, Jeb Dunnuck, Feb 2010

Showing more fruit and a softer texture than the ’05, the 2006 Bernard Burgaud Côte-Rôtie is packed with ripe blackberry, cassis, meat, violets and lots of spice and graphite (only 20% new barrique) aromas and flavors. On the palate, this displays medium body with a rich texture, ripe fruit, balanced acidity and a lengthy finish. Definitely more fruit and depth than the ’05, but also not as focused or precise. Cellar the ‘05’s while you drink these.

Ruby-red. Smoky red and dark berry aromas are complicated by violet, cured meat, anise and minerals. Textbook Cote-Rotie on the nose as well as the palate, which offers sweet raspberry and cassis flavors complicated by tobacco and candied licorice notes. Gentle tannins add grip and focus to the long, sappy finish. This is already delicious.

Gentle aromatic blend of cassis, black pepper and violets. Surprisingly light and liquid freshness. Tannins just glide by but tannin and acid provide shapely form. (JH)

Component #1: Deep ruby. Rich dark berry aromas are complemented by cured meat, tobacco and candied violet. Round and sweet, with deep, chewy blackberry and cassis flavors. Excellent finishing thrust. Component #2, from a new cask: Inky ruby. Boysenberry and licorice on the nose, with complexity added by graphite, fresh flowers and cured tobacco. Ripe dark fruit flavors are enlivened by zesty acidity, finishing with subtle grip.
