2007 Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs

Chardonnay. RS 8.6 g/l, tartaric acidity 6.2 g/l. Zesty Chardonnay nose. Rather coarse texture. Not really a champagne challenger. (JR)

Pale gold and some interest on the nose. Nicely balanced and very clean and refreshing. Youthful. (JR)

Pale gold. Ripe apples and blossom, the whole orchard! Not much yeastiness on the nose. Impressively sleek on the palate, with satisfyingly bright fruit and a bit of toastiness. Moderate length. Acidity wraps things up nicely – but not too obviously. Compared with the Brut Reserve, this has a lot more depth and potential. A strong follow-on to the 2006, and their best release so far, for me.
