Good price for an 18-year-old wine? Menthol notes. Lots of sweetness and mellowness. The most delicious cough medicine that's likely to come your way? Still some tannins but it's not uncomfortable to drink now. VGV (JR)

Dry cork stuck in the neck. Wine had to be poured through a small hole in it. Looks much more mature than the Warre's, Quinta da Cavadinha 2004. Shaded ruby rim. Attractively evolved nose and nicely rounded tannins on the palate. Big and sweet with an attractive suggestion of coffee grounds (I do mean the taste not the texture). Appetising. Round and absolutely ready to drink. Something of the vintage port experience for those in a hurry. Maybe not the most persistent or concentrated port but very nicely put together. GV (JR)
Fearsomely bright colour, red fruits, spice, but very closed. Ripe, very sweet with firm tannins and structured to last a very long time before revealing any of the tertiary aromas. However, the precocious fruit and spirit notes right now do make it quite attractive. At its best however, for the long term. (RH)
